Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 5, 2026

Caro ("Caro," "we," "us," or "our") helps you turn saved recipe videos into clean, cookable recipes. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We keep it in plain language on purpose.

1. Information we collect

Account & identity

When you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your name and email address to create and secure your account. We store a unique account identifier and a profile that may include a username and an in-app level.

Recipes you save

When you import a recipe, we store the recipe content — its title, source video URL, image, prep and cook times, servings, difficulty, ingredients, instructions, measurement system, and the date you saved it — along with your display preferences (such as your chosen measurement units and servings).

Cooking activity

When you cook a recipe, you can log a cooking session that includes a rating, notes, timestamps, and photos you choose to add. You may also create cookbooks and grocery lists.

Recipe video links

To turn a video into a recipe, the video URL you provide is sent to our recipe-parsing service so it can read the publicly available caption and content and return structured recipe steps.

Purchases

If you start a free trial or subscribe to Caro, purchase and subscription status is processed through Apple and our subscription provider. We do not receive or store your full payment card details.

Device & usage data

Like most apps, we and our service providers may process basic technical information (such as app version and diagnostic data) to operate the app, keep it secure, and fix problems.

2. How we use your information

  • To create your account and keep it secure.
  • To import, store, organize, and display your recipes and cookbooks.
  • To convert recipe videos into structured, step-by-step recipes.
  • To provide cooking sessions, ratings, notes, photos, and grocery lists.
  • To process free trials and subscriptions.
  • To operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and improve the app.
  • To communicate with you about support requests and important updates.

3. How your information is shared

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with the service providers that make Caro work:

  • Supabase — hosts our database, authentication, and file storage. Your account, recipes, cooking sessions, and photos are stored here.
  • Apple & Google — provide Sign in with Apple and Google Sign-In so you can authenticate securely.
  • Apple App Store & our subscription provider (RevenueCat) — process and manage your purchases and subscription status.
  • Our recipe-parsing service — receives the recipe video URL you submit in order to generate the recipe.

We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of Caro and its users.

4. Storage & security

Your data is stored in your account and protected by row-level security so that only you can access your own recipes, cooking sessions, and photos. Photos are kept in a private storage area scoped to your account. Some images may also be cached on your device so the app loads quickly offline. We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, though no method of transmission or storage is ever 100% secure.

5. Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the app. When you delete your account, we delete your associated data as described below.

6. Your rights & choices

You can view and edit your recipes, cookbooks, and profile at any time in the app. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal information.

Deleting your account. You can delete your account directly in the app from the Profile settings. Deleting your account removes your account record, your recipes and cooking data, and your stored photos. You can also manage or cancel your subscription any time in your Apple App Store account settings.

7. Children

Caro is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will remove it.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll revise the "Last updated" date above, and significant changes may be communicated in the app.
